Introducing Linton CE Infant School…
At St. Mary’s we are proud of our Infant School. Our church school, which was founded in 1815, provides a nurturing environment where success is celebrated and difference is valued. The Christian ethos is of utmost importance and permeates everything we do and offer. One Church School Inspection report stated, “The Christian ethos is evident throughout the inclusive school where every pupil is valued…Their personal development is supported very well by the innovative and stimulating curriculum”. Our teachers and support staff are committed to providing a high quality early years education for all our 170+ pupils.

Linton CE Infant School is a values based school and each month we focus on teaching a specific value. We have chosen 11 values: unity, forgiveness, friendship, respect, happiness, love, trust, hope, resilience, understanding and courage. We feel all these values are the foundations to achieving our vision.

Linking Church and School…
Linton CE Infant School is a voluntary aided school, which means the Governing Body is made up of a majority of Governors who are appointed through St. Mary’s; either as a Parochial Church Council (PCC) appointment or nominated locally and approved by the Diocesan Board of Education (DBE) at The Diocese of Ely. Cambridgeshire County Council, as the Local Education Authority (LEA), agrees another appointment. Five others sit on the Governing Body including The Headteacher, a Teacher Governor and a Governor from the non-teaching staff and two Parent Governors.

Getting involved…
The primary area of involvement would be to become a Governor. But what does a Governor do?

The Governors support the Headteacher and staff of the school in three main areas: Strategic Planning (Where should we be heading?); Acting as ‘Critical Friends’ (Is this the best way of getting there?) and Accountability (Are we using our resources to the greatest benefit of all our children?). Governors are there to offer a different view and to ask questions to help the school in its own self evaluation.

All Governors are equal on the board. The term of office for all Governors is 4 years.

The full Governing Body meets twice a term and the sub-committees meet twice a term. In addition, there are working parties on specific projects, educational meetings and an expectation that the governors will, from time to time, after liaison with the Head, visit the school.

Beyond the support of the leadership team, the Governing Body has a duty to appoint a new Head when the post becomes vacant.

The role can be very rewarding but does demand a considerable time commitment.
